Successful innovations attract investments, create new jobs and thus contribute to the Belgian economy. The chemicals, plastics and life sciences sector is highly innovative and every other year, essenscia’s Innovation Award recognises ground-breaking developments by international companies as well as SMEs, spin-offs or renowned research centres. The award aims to highlight innovations that improve people’s quality of life and contribute to a more sustainable future while protecting intellectual property.
In 2016, the third edition of the Innovation Award selected a Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) project as winner out of 40 excellent entries . H.R.H Princess Astrid handed over the award and a cheque of €30,000 to the Wavre-based biopharmaceutical giant for the development of a potential vaccine against shingles.
