Young people are often unaware that many high-tech products are based on plastics – and of how important the plastics-converting industry is to the Flemish economy. That is why the sector’s training organisation PlastIQ launched, together with Arburg, the “Plastics on Tour” initiative. Plastics on Tour is a truck equipped with various plastics-converting technologies, such as injection moulding, extrusion and thermoforming. The objective is to promote plastics processing among students and to recruit them to work in the sector. After an interactive visit to the truck, workshops are organised in cooperation with plastic-processing companies in the region. Each year, the truck visits five destinations in one week, reaching about 600 students.
