EuroChem Antwerp: reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% in five years

EuroChem is a large producer of mineral fertilizers in the Port of Antwerp. Part of its production chain consists of three installations for producing nitric acid, in which ammonia is catalytically oxidized. A typical side-product of the production process is nitrous oxide (N2O), a very strong greenhouse gas (almost 300x stronger than CO2). Over the past five years, EuroChem has invested significantly in increasing the quantity of catalyzers in its reactors to eliminate nitrous oxide more effectively. These investments have delivered a reduction in annual CO2 emissions of more than 200,000 tons of CO2-equivalents.
